Formed in 1990, the
Laurie Young Concert Band is a non-profit community band, consisting of around 30
members. Its members comprise of a cross section of the community, ranging
from high school
students to retirees. While essentially amateur musicians, the band has a number of music teachers
and former armed services
musicians.
During 1992, the
concert band was sponsored by the Queensland Government’s Department of Emergency
Services and performed as the “Queensland Ambulance Service Concert
Band”.
The Band performs a
wide range of music ranging from traditional marches to big band jazz, movie themes,
show tunes and classical concert band pieces, tailoring selections to suit the
audience and the
occasion.
